hahaa! but no ... it will never die!

New Sleeping Bag

I received my new GoLite sleeping bag today! It's the three-season Z10, a 10 degree down bag for my next trip.

Oh yeah, hi again.

Here I am at the end of the Appalachian Trail. I hiked Southbound from Mt Katahdin Maine to Springer Georgia in 88 days -- August 21 to November 17.  I can honestly say I'm glad it's over.  I do have more hiking plans at the moment, but they are not certain yet.

I'm Still Alive

So 7 years between posts is quite a while. I have changed quite a bit since them, but in most ways (to quote Everlast) "I'm the same motherfucker that I ever was." I suppose my interests have changed quite a bit. I no longer have any pets, no longer play soccer, and no longer have a significant other. I've walked across the country six times -- that sounds pretty ridiculous even to me -- and pretty much lost touch with everyone from my old life, other than the occasional Facebook message. Is there much else to say? Probably. But it a lot of ways this has been a lost decade for me.  It feels like time to move on with my life, but I honestly don't really know what that means. Or more likely, I do know what it means and don't want to accept it.

This is a pretty weird first post back, and there probably won't be a second.

Even newer blog

In the unlikely event that anyone still looks at this blog, I've moved the location of my main blog again. It is now at:

The reason for the change is to prevent a computer failure from taking my blog offline again. Up until recently I have used thingamablog to make my blog, which is a small program that runs from your local computer. Which is great until you want to update your blog from another computer or when your main computer dies. So I have switched to wordpress which is installed on the same webserver that hosts my blog, so as long as I have internet access, I can update my blog. I hope to see you at my new blog!

Once again

The hard drive of my main computer died several months back. The data for updating my main blog, irjake, was captured in a dead pc. I have finally recovered that data, so any and all posts will be over at my main blog again:

It's hard to believe sometimes

I don't know whether this is funny or sad....

I don't know what planet such people live on, but then there are still some people who believe global warming isn't man-made, or even that it is not occurring at all. Hell, there are still some people who believe the world is only a few thousand years old and will soon be 'saved' by a big funny-looking guy in a beard.

Find a penny, pick it up....

So Katie always stops to pick up pennies, which is an exercise that I've always deemed pointless. If it's a silver coin, particularly dime or better, it's certainly worth the effort to bend over... but not for a penny. So I made her a deal, I'd give her $3 if she'd stop picking up pennies for a year. She took it as a challenge, and has chronicled her efforts to prove me wrong!
